You can find out more here. Here is it found in fast-flowing, highly-oxygenated water over rocky substrates, sheltering under boulders by day, and emerging at night to feed on algae and periphyton covering the rocks. Provide a mature aquarium with plenty of shady hiding places amongst tangles of bogwood, rocky caves, PVC pipes, bamboo tubes, and robust planting. Filtration should be efficient with areas of brisk water movement along with some quieter resting spots out of the current. There should be a decent level of oxygenation, and small frequent partial water changes will help keep nitrate to a minimum.
The Polka Dot Plec is generally peaceful, but it will show some territorial aggression towards its own kind if not given enough space. In most instances though, they can be maintained in small groups and with other Loricariids as long as there is adequate room and enough hiding places to go round.
Tankmates could include any small-medium sized peaceful fish that enjoy warm, fast-flowing water. Feeding Omnivorous. Breeding The Polka Dot Plec is reported to have been bred in the home aquarium, but no details are available.

Peppermint Pleco L030
Oct 3, 31 0 0 Hi guys I saw a beautiful L peppermint pleco at a LFS a few days ago. I thought it was pretty. I'm wanting to get a pleco for my mbuna tank, but I'm wondering if I can put this species in there. The pH is about 8. Any general suggestions? I did a search online for the L but came up empty on care tips. I know the members here will come through! Mar 1, 0 0 38 Wausau, WI. I'm leery about fancy plecos with cichlids, but that might just be me.
Also, the different black and white spotted species tend to prefer soft and acidic water more than some other fancies. It might be able to acclimate, but then it will have to deal with the additional stress of dodging mbuna. Maybe someone has a more optimistic view?
DeRo Keeper of Cichlids. Nov 23, 0 0 Tallahassee, FL. My gold nugget is doing great in my 55 african tank.
In the 9 months I've had him I havnt seen them nip at him once. Unfortunately before discovering this site and doing research I tried twice with a Peppermint Pleco for my 29 gallon community tank. They loved to eat cucumber and hide in the cave but they never lived past a month. I found a HUGE peice of wood for my african tank see tank pics and purchased a gold nugget from the same store as the peppermints.

The Tiger Panaque has been successfully bred in captivity on a small number of occasions, but most specimen in the aquarium trade are still wild-caught.
Therefore, a good supply of bog wood is necessary in the tank: not only does this fish extracts certain elements and nutrients from the organic layer which forms on the wood over time also known as "Aufwuchs"it actually eats the wood itself, possibly for digestive reasons.Passata recipe jamie oliver
As wood does is not very rich in nutrients, it means the Tiger Panaque consumes vast amounts of it, and produces an almost equal amount of waste because of which a very strong filtration system is an absolute necessity. To keep more than one specimen in the same tank, or together with other bottom dwelling fish, you need at least a 40x16" x40cm. When kept as only catfish in an aquarium, a tank size of 32x14" 80x35cm.
Typical for South American catfish, this species does best in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water, good oxygenation and a good amount of currents.
It can however adapt to harder, more alkaline water, but whether it will reproduce under such conditions is questionable. Write review. We promise to never spam you, and just use your email address to identify you as a valid customer.
